You might see many posts about tire recommendations. Almost half of it only talks about famous brands like Michelin, Continental and Bridgestone. I saw a non-tire industry author recommends tires possibly based on brand reputation. Not even Yokohama is on the list.
Here, I am introducing tire models that are price competitive, true value worth that offers high performance for your considerations.
1. Kumho PS71
A high-performance tire with decent wet and dry performance even uphill and downhill. Each and every Tyrehood customers feedback that this model is the true value worth to install given the promotional offer for their sizes. (Promotional offer for PS71 in HK is just slightly more expensive than China brand)
Most sizes offer A-B wet grip in the EU tire label, and above 71 dB external rolling noise. Tyrehood customers complaint about its noise level is slightly higher than other models but it is still acceptable.
Its maximum treadwear so far can reach around 70,000km as recorded for a Tesla Model S vehicle owner.
In HK market, authorized official PS71 will soon be replaced by its upgraded version, PS72.

2. Kumho PS72
An ultra high-performance tire just recently released in HK market. It was released in the early year 2025, and it received numerous good feedback from the EU and U.S. market. Given its low selling price but offering very high performance, it is definitely one of the considerations for your tire replacement.
Original price is slightly higher than its predecessor. But promotional offer in HK is truly value worth.

3. Michelin Pilot Sport 5 (PS5, parallel imported for R17 and R18)
If your vehicle size is 225/45 R17, 225/40 R18 or some other sizes, parallel imported Michelin PS5 (made in Europe) is the only one you will choose besides PS72. Nothing else. Its parallel imported price for 225/45 R17 lowest is HK$950/tire, and highest is around HK$1050/tire. The price for 225/40 R18 lowest is HK$1000/tire, and highest is around HK$1100/tire
Even Falken FK520 price (in HK selling around $1000 – $1050/tyre for 225/40 R18) cannot beat such selling price. I believe it is a no brainer to choose Michelin over FK520 for the same price.
Tyrehood customers feel that Pilot Sport 5 gave a better traction performance than Continental SportContact 7 especially in rainy days. (SC7 does provide better comfort)

4. Falken FK510
When it was first released, you can spend the same amount for one Pilot Sport 4 to get two pieces of Falken FK510. FK510 performance is way much better than its older model FK453. 8 out of 10 Tyrehood customers were impressed by its performance. Drivers praise for its good in wet and dry performance. My friend’s vehicle (Toyota Noah) was convinced by me to get FK510 rather than Michelin PS4. And the feedback is: GOOD! Ever since, these customers are no longer reaching out for top brands thanks to FK510.
Nonetheless, the falling price of parallel imported Michelin, Bridgestone and Continental became more price competitive (for R17 – R18). Ever since the release of FK520, only fewer sizes were available. But it is still one of the top considerations of your purchase list with limited budget.

5. Falken FK520L
Successor of FK510. Its noise level is lower than the old model given by the comments of Tyrehood customers from those who have used FK510 before. That’s it. But the price for FK520 is higher by around HK$50 – $100/tire
Although it is not price competitive in the R17 – R18 range compared against parallel imported Michelin, Continental and Bridgestone, its R19 and above is still much cheaper than those top brands. Nevertheless, its pricing sometimes is higher than original pricing of Dunlop Sport Maxx 060+.
Both models are manufactured by Japan Sumitomo Factory. Falken is market positioned as more high-performance category whereas Dunlop is positioned as premium comfort brand. But the release of 060+ and FK520, I no longer see any difference between the two performance model. Market positioning seems to be blur, especially the latest Dunlop model is released.
A recent market strategy released by Japan Sumitomo that it will be focusing Dunlop as premium global brand. Falken, looks like it will be lagging behind.

6. Yokohama V701
With a directional tread pattern. This tire has an excellent wet performance, better than Falken FK520 according to a Tyrehood customer feedback. A recent Mini cooper EV driver is also impressed by this tire performance.
This tire is released since 2016. But it is still keeping its performance better than other brands new models.
The only disadvantage of this tire is its noise level is quite high.

7. Dunlop Sport Maxx 060+
Originated from the same factory as Falken. This ultra high performance tire gives you full confidence in your everyday driving, even speeding during rainy days.
Promotional discount (in HK) got a high pricing advantage over other brands such as Falken, Yokohama, Bridgestone and so on. If you are seeking for tire replacement, you should start looking at this brand two months earlier to get a possible discounted price.

BMW x3, Dunlop 245/50 R18 Sport Maxx 060+
8. Bridgestone RE004
This is one of the Bridgestone models that never got a complaint by customers.
The only disadvantage is it got a lower treadwear rating compared to its ultra high performance tire, Potenza Sport, and also high wear off compared to other brands

9. Yokohama V107
I did not sell this model that frequently until recently. (in HK), parallel imported availability went from none to rare. And its pricing is unbelievably low. E.g. 235/50 R19 (made in Japan) is just around HK$1200 – $1300/tyre.
Yokohama never disappoints. No customers complaint about Yokohama products.

Nissan EV, 235/55 R19
10. Continental SportContact 7 (SC7)
Good in traction, comfort, both dry and wet weather. Continental SC7 is undoubtedly balance all the performance well. Parallel imported SC7 for 225/40 R18 got a good pricing advantage similar to Michelin Pilot Sport 5. But the price goes way high up for R19 and above.
If you want a high traction with comfort, SC7 is your choice.

11. Toyo Proxes Sport 2
In my opinion, Toyo reputation is diminishing in HK. Sometimes when I recommend Kumho to customers, most did not hear about it and prefer getting other made in Japan brands. Here when I recommend Toyo, at least 30% of the customers did not hear about this brand before.
Dwindling frame of Toyo does not decrease its model performance. Proxes Sport 2 offers high performance with no issues in your normal day driving. It can offer higher speeding performance as well. No Tyrehood customers complaint about this model.
Another good thing is, the price of Toyo (in HK) is sometimes even lower than Falken FK520.

12. Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S
The most expensive but possibly the best models in dry and wet traction of all the models available. It is the most famous models purchased in the year 2017-18. Even until now, some sizes are still available.
Due to high wear off, customers are opting for less expensive models that offer similar (or maybe just slightly lower performance) with lower wear off, such as Pilot Sport 5, SC7.
Another disadvantage of this model is the high noise level it generates compared to other models.

Conclusion
If you are looking for very high speed driving and steering even in rainy days, Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and Continental SportContact 7 is your choice. Followed by Yokohama V107 that with lower retail price.
You wont drive very fast but still speeding beyond some limit, Kumho PS72 is the best of all especially in terms of price competitiveness. Forking out extra amount for Dunlop Sport Maxx 060+ and Falken FK520 will enjoy lower sound level.
Yokohama V701 will be a good option for rain seasons but noise level will be high.
