Yunnan, the western part of China. It’s altitude can range from 600m to 3500m (excluding Jade Dragon Snow Mountain aka Yulong Snow Mountain). It got different views on different seasons, and summer season (from July to August) is the peak period for visitors.
Yunnan tour can be separated into four parts – the North area, the West area, the South West area and the South area. For first timer like us, it’s recommended to go for the North for visiting.
It is 8 days trip on Yunnan and I found it insufficient time to tour around as we have skipped Shangri-La. Strongly recommended to go for at least 10 – 11 days to include Shangri-La in your itinerary.
Day 1: Changsha South
Day 2: Kunming
Day 3 – 4: Dali
Day 5 – 7: Lijiang
Day 8 : back to Kunming
Day 9: Return
There was a sudden change of plan on Day 1 due to the upcoming typhoon. Guangdong high speed railway department made an early statement that it will cancel all the train schedules on that day that we are setting off.
We quickly change our ticket and set off one day earlier to leave Guangdong Province to another Province first.
We decide to stay at Changsha South first because it has more train arrangement heading to Kunming.
Accomodation – Starwood Future Loft Suite Meisu Hotel
Our purpose just to stay for a night and set off again early in the morning. The accomodations near the Changsha South railway station are quite expensive.
Starwood Future Loft Suite Meisu Hotel is one of the lowest price of all the ones that I have found. It provides free breakfast and free transport to the railway station.
I underestimate the walking distance from the railway station to the hotel. I thought its just one straight flat floor but it turns out I need to get down the tunnel with two big luggage. Advise to just get a cab to there if you are carrying two big luggage.
Room
Hotel room is a small duplex flat. Bed is on the second floor but the aircon is on the ground floor. Therefore, sleeping on the bed is a little warm, or you may sleep on the sofa like I do.
Breakfast
There is selection of breakfast available, and it is actually take away food from restaurant downstairs. Breakfast can be delivered to the room as early as 7am (arrived at 6.50 am in our case)
Dinner Nearby
Within 10 minutes walk from the hotel, we went over to 杨裕兴 for dinner. It’s one of the few places that is still open after 9pm and it turns out to be one of the best meals we had in our journey 🤣 as we got very disappointed by our next night dinner.
The restaurants offer free rice and soup near the cashier.
ChangSha has a very famous view in April – wisteria. Some of the places with full of Wisteria flowers. If you plan to go Changsha and arrive early in the day, you can plan it as part of your itienary.
