The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd was first registered in Oct 1917 as a joint venture between Yokohama Electric Cable Manufacturing Company and the United States' BFGoodrich Company. Along the journey, the trademark name changed from Goodrich to Yokohama in the 1937, and Yokohama signed technology licensing agreement with mulitple companies such as South Korea's Hankook Tire Mfg Co., Ltd, and opened up GTY Tire company in the U.S as joint venture with U.S company General Tire, Toyo Tire. Afterwards, The BFGoodrich Company sold its majority shares, and Yokohama continue to expand its businesses in multiple countries such as Philliphines, and China.

In the 2000, Yokohama formed an global tire alliance with Continental, and recently in 2014 signed master technological alliance agreement with South Korean's Kumho Tire.

Yokohama manufacture different varities of tire model, and it was in 1975 that Yokohama started to sell a tire named, G.T. Special Sealex, with the function of automatic puncture-sealing. Multiple racing champions in the years were also equipped with Yokohama tires. Many different tires such as fuel efficient tire ES01, geolander for SUV and recreational vehicles. The logo "Advan" started in 2005 for the sales of Advan Sport V103. The famous BluEarh AE model was offered to the market in 2010.

Yokohama Models in Hong Kong

There are a myraid of Yokohama tires in the Hong Kong market except winter tire. In 2018, the commonly known models are AE50, ES32, and racing tire AD08R for sport cars. Most of the original equipment tire model are normally available.

The authorized official Yokohama tires does not have sole agent distributor label pasted on the brand new tire. There is no clear indicator to differentiate the authorized one from the parallel imported one at the moment.
