Part ii of the Lijiang Tour Guide. We go to a place that very few visitors actually head for sightseeing.
Day 1: Changsha South

Cautions of altitude sickness
Lijiang altitude is around 2500m. This height may cause altitude sickness. Therefore, it’s important for visitors to monitor own’s health. If you find yourself with the following symptoms:
- headache
- short of breath
- feeling vomit
You should sit down and calm yourself. Get an oxygen bottle to breathe in and control your breath. You can easily purchase an oxygen bottle from supermarket / convenient store.
Lijiang Sightseeing Venues
Baisha Ancient Town (白沙古鎮)
Just like any other ancient town that I went. The reason for going here is to rent a local costume for photo taking.
Renting a costume cost around RMB100 for one person including makeup. You can rent it for one whole day before the shop closes. People normally rent the costume and go outside the ancient town for photo taking. They normally go to Lijiang Botanic Garden (麗江植物園) and/or Lijiang Naxi tribe (納西部落) which are mentioned in part i guide.
The whole town is a small area, but traffic jam always happens at the East gate. If you are self driving, you can try the West gate for parking as it is nearer to our next must-go sightseeing places. However, the road is narrow heading to the West gate. At that moment when we arrived at the west gate of the ancient town, the bridge is renovating and we need to cross the construction site to enter the ancient town.
If you decide to rent a costume there, I recommend this place – 白沙古镇予里旅拍. It locates around central area of the ancient town. The person is like a tour guide. She knows the stuff nearby and even around the place for photo taking.
Just a few walks away at the back of the street located a local culture dying cloth store. It’s free of charge to enter for image taking.
The only time that we manage to see the jade snow mountain at the ancient town.
There is no specific place recommended for eating. You can just choose randomly for lunch before getting to the next place – Wenhai Village (文海村). Strongly recommended place for visiting for a whole day.

Wenhai Village (文海村)
It’s located at 3000m altitude (the car will go up to 3050m first then go down to the place). It’s even higher than the Lijiang city area. If you do not have any altitude sickness, there shouldn’t be any problem to go up to this place. Besides, you can only go up there by car.
It’s rare for visitors sightseeing yet, it’s highly recommended to go. It takes around 30 – 45 mins to reach on top. There is a big pond on top of the place, making it looks like a wonderland with all the clouds very near to you.
I strongly suggest having lunch / tea over there and chill for the rest of the day. Horse riding available. There are also other restaurants going further up. In this journey, we go to Wenhai Flower Coffee Shop (文海花树咖啡屋), enjoying a very short moment in this high altitude. Restaurants also available near this cafe.
Another point to note that this place is a little colder than Lijiang city. You may need a thicker jacket if you are not cold resistant. And there is only one toilet outside the cafe, and is VERY smelly.

It is one straight road ahead going to Baisha ancient town west gate and Wenhai village. Saving you time to stay and chill for the rest of the day. My suggestion is, simply go to Wenhai village for a day. It won’t disappoint.
