This trip is actually 8 days long from Kaohsiung to Green Island and Hualien. Touring the east side of Taiwan. I intended to include Orchid Island (Landyu) in the trip at first but I found the schedule is too tight. Green Island is nearer to Taiwan main island. It will shorten my time travelling to Hualien.
Day 1 : Kaohsiung
Day 2 – 3: Green Island
Day 4 – 6: Hualien
Day 7: Kaohsiung
Day 8 : return
Green Island is more towards water sport activities – snorkeling or scuba diving. The island is small, and getting around the island with (electric) bicycle or motorcycle takes around 15 mins to an hour. It’s a place for leisure, sit at the seaside, stare towards the Pacific Ocean to clear your mind.
Accommodations
A number of places to stay but mine seems to have closed down just some moments ago. I tried to search for it again but it said unavailable in Agoda. Its website is also down.
Some accommodations offer a package per person including rooms, scuba diving, ferry ticket from Taitung to Green Island (return tickets), and (electric) bicycle / motorbike . Even without the package, you can still search for scuba diving / snorkeling rental near the sea side. Motorbike rental is just nearby the port.
Transportation
Take the train from Kaohsiung to Taitung, and a cab to Fugang Fishing Harbor. You can get the ferry ticket at the Harbor. Along the way to the harbor, you can get lunch at the nearby restaurants.
Meals
Not many restaurants on the island. Just choose whatever you feel like going in to get your breakfast, lunch and dinner. In my opinion, I like all the food that I ate in Taiwan. I especially enjoy the sandwich as breakfast.
Activities and Sightseeing Places
Travelling a number of places to see sunsets. Although it actually looks the same everywhere, the places that you view the sunsets will feel sort of different.
I actually toured around the island two times. The first time is to get familiar with the road on the first day and the second time is photo taking on the second day.
Being an enthusiastic of outdoor activities, snorkeling is in the itinerary. I think I will just get a diving license one day secretly. Diving can view lots more things.
I strongly recommend arranging snorkeling in the morning before the tide is out. The water is not clear if the tide is out. I tried it one time and was totally disappointed with the snorkeling experience. The water became a little cloudy.
Snorkeling in Green Island is one of the best experience I had. It’s almost on par with Maldives, and better than Phuket. I can play this whole day.

There is a very famous hot spring on Green Island. It is one of the rare saltwater hot spring (hot water from the sea underground) in the world. I didn’t get into it as I don’t like the idea of getting into a hot spring during summer. If you happen to be there during other seasons, it is one of the places you should considering trying.
Some accommodations offer night tour for visitors. It may include stargazing, night flower viewing and so on. The tour require you to drive an electric bicycle or motorbike to follow.
On the third day, return to Taitung and head to Hualien by train.
