Trip in Taiwan: Hualien 3 Days 2 Night Tour Guide (Ruisui Episode)

This trip is 8 days long from Kaohsiung to Green Island and Hualien. Touring the east side of Taiwan. You can visit the post here to find out more about Green Island Tour.

Day 1 : Kaohsiung
Day 2 – 4: Green Island
Day 4 – 6: Hualien (Ruisui)
Day 7: Kaohsiung
Day 8 : return

We leave Green Island in the afternoon (on day 4) and get back to Taitung station by cab to travel the next place – Hualien. By the time we arrived Hualien is around 4 – 5pm. There are lots of food market nearby so I don’t have any recommendation. In fact, I like Taiwan food so much that I enjoy every food that I take throughout the journey.

We go to Ruisui the next day, which is actually back to the route from Taitung. We decided to stay in Hualien instead because it got more food varieties and easier to get cheaper guesthouse. Afterall, we will be going to Hotel Bayview (七星潭渡假飯店) that can view the North Pacific Ocean on the next day.

Ruisui

From Hualien to Ruisui took around an hour. This time, we rented a motorbike to tour around Ruisui. It’s more convenient than renting an electric bicycle. Whether it’s bicycle, electric bicycle, or motorbike, you can get it rented near Ruisui station. Just to make sure that you wear a helmet and follow strictly to the traffic light especially if you are riding a motorbike.

Coming over to Ruisui just for one purpose – pasture. We went over two pasture to chill and relax. Mostly for animals and drink milk.

Ji-Jheng Ranch (吉蒸牧場)

Ruisui Ranch (瑞穗牧場)

Both places offer all types of diary products such as milk and ice cream. Animals can be fed by purchasing animal food from the counter.

These two places took us half the day and we return the bike and left at around 6 something in the evening to take the train back to Hualien. Along the way from Ji-Jheng Ranch to Ruisui Ranch, we went pass a tea plant for some tea as well.

Things to note for renting motorbike in Taiwan

  1. Driving lane on the right side just like China
  2. Road sometimes have Motorbike and/or bicycle lane.
  3. Follow the traffic light strictly. NEVER drive beyond red light. You will see a lot of people still go straight or turn right when traffic still in red light. You never know there will be traffic police hiding right in front of you. ( I experienced that when I sat at my friend’s bike years ago when I stayed in Taiwan in the past)
  4. Unlike China traffic rules, Taiwan does not allow right turn when traffic is in red light.
  5. For motorbike, if you want to turn left, you will need to turn right to get towards the right side road first. Then wait for the signal and go straight.
